Question of grandecharlotte (07.16.2015): Why do we always see a negative image of pirates? Were they all murderers? A:
A pirate is defined as an outlaw. Most of the time he plunders, sometimes he rapes and kills. So we can only have a negative image.
Some privateers became pirates despite themselves, e.g. William Kidd who had been trained by his crew to become a pirate. Or, conversely, the pirate Henry Morgan who became Governor!
